Abstract: With the "4¡¤26" World Intellectual Property Day approaching, on April 16, Chengdu Customs conducted an operation to destroy the counterfeits seized in recent years which infringed the intellectual property. The destroyed counterfeits were fakes labeled global brands and were mainly from the ones which were seized in the process of the customs clearance including clothes, shoes, hats, glasses, bags etc.
¡¡¡¡From bags of LV and COACH to sportswear of ADIDAS and NIKE, from scarves of BURBERRY to boots of UGG, yesterday(April 16) over 2,600 counterfeits involving various global brands were destroyed in a garbage disposal plant in Longquan, Chengdu. It was reported that this destruction was the first time for Chengdu Customs to destroy the counterfeits which infringed the intellectual property themselves in the recent five years.
¡¡ Step Up! The First Destruction Conducted by Customs Themselves
It was reported that this destruction was the first time for Chengdu Customs to destroy the counterfeits which infringed the intellectual property themselves in the recent five years. The destroyed counterfeits were mainly from two cases infringing intellectual property in 2011. Chengdu Customs, along with several local departments including Intellectual Property Bureau, Commercial Bureau, Industrial and Commercial Bureau, Police etc., carried out the special operation against infringement of intellectual property rights continuously and seized many counterfeits which used mail delivery to send those counterfeits to European and American countries, which involving over 20 global brands.
¡¡¡¡On January 17, 2011, it was a routine check of Chengdu Customs about the international parcels to be delivered. Among the parcels to Europe and America, it was found that the goods such as sportswear, shoes and hats were suspected to infringe the trademark of several global brands including LV and PRADA, so Chengdu Customs stepped up for the on-site inspections.
¡¡ After statistic analysis, among all the 3 batches of 52 parcels, there were 238 infringing counterfeits were seized which were worth about RMB100,000 and involved 25 global brands.
On April 16, 2013, Chengdu Customs found 1703 counterfeits including clothes, shoes, hats etc. in a parcel from Zigong to London, which were worth about RMB 360,000.
From January to March, Chengdu Customs seized 22 carrying excessive amounts of money cases and uncovered HKD 2,893,000, RMB 800,000 and USD 21,000 in total this year.
